CMEJ x Masjid An-Nur: The Solar Hub Project

How we work to make our communities climate resilient

National Disasters, Climate Change, Civil Unrest, these elements of life are very real and at times, they can be very scary. Here at CMEJ, we believe that being prepared for such emergencies can help you be resilient when they arrive!

CMEJ has partnered with Masjid An-Nur to develop a Solar Hub. This will be a place for community members to access charging ports for medical devices, heating & cooling, and use WIFI as applicable during a climate emergency or natural disaster like the Tornado of 2011.

What is a Solar Hub?

A Solar Hub is a designated building
that is used for emergencies such as
natural disasters and extreme weather.

Why Does North Minneapolis Need A Hub?

North Minneapolis, designated as a "Green Zone" due to its intersection of environmental pollution and racial, political, and economic marginalization, faces significant barriers to climate resiliency. Establishing a hub in this area is crucial. Strengthening our resilient communities against disasters and power outages allows us to sustainably develop the kind of spaces and communities we aspire to inhabit.
